Why cricket is the most loved game in India ?

Over the decades cricket has been the most loved, played and worshiped game in India. Almost each and every guy has played this game once in his life time, be it in professional or unprofessional manner.

From gully cricket to professionally organized tournaments, each type of cricket has its own flavors and is similarly popular among-st various types of age groups. Although India has been representing in various other sports like badminton, tennis, hockey, swimming locally and internationally, have you ever wondered that why cricket has been the most loved game till today.

Here are a few reasons that will help us in finding the answer to this:

Most Easy to Play: In terms of playing, the game is pretty simple and hence has gained much popularity over other sports. All you need is a bat, a bowl and a minimum of two players. Also this game can be played at any time of the day, in any type of place right from grounds to crowded streets. In fact, gully cricket is played in almost every area of the country.

Better Facilities and Infrastructure: Infrastructure for cricket has been of almost international standards that we have in India. In fact we have one of the largest governing bodies in the form of BCCI which appreciates good cricketers and also motivates them. We have ample amount of cricket coaching centers and also we have world class stadiums in almost every state of the country. These two factors have greatly help in fetching attention of cricket lovers and also has helped cricket to win over other sports in terms of popularity. A strong backing from BCCI also have helped cricket to emerge as the most popular sport in the country.

Enough Exposure & Motivation: Talking about exposure no one can deny the cricketing brand value in India. If you are a topper of reputed university or an top level business school there are chances that some people won’t recognize you in spite of your high level of achievement but on the other hand even if you have not played enough matches but have just saved a match for India with a brilliant catch or wicket, chances are there of people knowing you more. Also over the years India has produced a number of geniuses in every aspect of the game including all three - batting, bowling & fielding. Each of them is alone enough to inspire millions to join the game.

Brighter Future Opportunities: With the number of development in cricket from the past few years, cricket has also become a good future to pursue. In olden days parents used to ask children to concentrate only on studies neglecting all other things, whereas the scenario seems changing these days. From grounds men to umpires, there are a number of professions that a person can adopt if he knows the game well if he can’t be a player which includes sports journalist, Commentator, Videographer etc. Thus it has become practically possible for a person to be involved in cricket while earning his bread and butter at the same time.

Fitness Level: More over cricket has been a game which does not need more muscle power but is a game that needs good hand eye coordination & wrists along with majestic timings. A major reason why we are unable to compete with other countries in sports like football, hockey, athletics or tennis is that we are not gifted with significant physical strength, good height and substantial match fitness. Cricket is a game where you need long stamina in order to stand in the field for more than a day. So each and every guy who loves cricket will try to remain fit because he wants to perform well while playing.

Money, Fame and IPL Factor: Cricket and money have always been around together. Cricketers are the most highly paid sportsmen when compared to other sports. Also the price money involved has been huge, allowing the cricketers to lead a lavish lifestyle which other sports men cannot afford while playing any other sport other than cricket. Whenever we choose our careers, money has always been one of the deciding factors. So whenever a career choice in sports is in question, it automatically is towards cricket. Also with the advent of IPL, there has been an extra chance for local cricketers to earn without making it to the national team. IPL has amplified the popularity of cricket in every Indian mind that thinks about the game. Also cricket has always been the most viewed game and hence have always attracted a wide range of sponsors and advertisers. Even cricketers have made fortunes for themselves by endorsing several products and appearing in numerous commercials, adding to their ever-growing fame. As compared, a very few prominent, mostly the top names in other fields have managed to achieve a little part of this. Several attempts had been made by arranging similar competition like IPL which includes ISL, IBL or Pro Kabbadi but none of these events has been able to match the fame or popularity of it.

The Legend: ‘If cricket is my religion, Sachin is my god’ & if you have the ‘god’ of cricket in our own very country, its quite natural that Indian people will remain hooked to the game. Whether he is playing or not, his presence can always be felt when cricket is being played, seen or heard.
