Diwali of the Underdogs
Once I found this little boy, who was standing on the other of the road lustily looking at the firecrackers in a shop which was in opposite side of the road, and he was counting the penny (coins) which he had in his hand.
I looked into his eyes and realized a dying Diwali in it, as he too wanted to celebrate Diwali by wearing new clothes as others but only he could manage was that to clean his own dirty clothes that he was wearing.
While most of us always tend to showcase our pain, our sadness by displaying it to others, this little champ did completely opposite to us by quietly drinking his sorrows and not speaking any single word about it. I walked towards him as I felt very sad for this little guy and out of sadness i asked him that 'what did he want from that shop?’
But i was amazed when instead of telling me about what he wanted; this little guy keeping his morals intact just nodded his head indicating a 'no'. Although he was a small kid, he was conscious about his principles and thus didn’t want any kind of help for me.
Amidst all these lights which is due to the lamps in the city (Diwali around the corner), I saw him laughing but also noticed his sorrow which he was hiding behind his smile.
We all live happily in here but I had just noticed a proud death of his dreams in his eyes which no one noticed. We say that we celebrate festivals to bring happiness and joy in everyone's life than why it was so that I saw his thirst from within towards the dream which he couldn't fulfill??
When this festival is about win of good over bad then we should do something for poor kids on this festival. Instead of spreading those gifts in our well settled friends and relatives, we should gift some poor.
You might have seen them shivering in nights, while sleeping aside of road in that open area. Can’t we do something for their welfare rather than wasting our money for fireworks?
