It took him 24 years and 18000 feet to find himself..
It was a boring Sunday and I had basked in glory all day under the television, channel surfing, hunting for movies etc., but it was the end of the day that shook me to my core.
I am a hard-core Bollywood movie fan and love watching movies anytime. I hold personal reasons behind this craze because I tend to see myself in the movies somewhere or the other. They were playing this movie called Lakshya and I got stuck to it. It was a Hrithik starrer and I was hoping to see some fireballs flying in terms of dialog delivery and some good subtle romancing by this aging veteran.
The movie revolves around Karan Shergill a young man who has no goal or plans for his future. His father is a businessman; his brother is a successful individual living in America. His girlfriend, Romi, is a student activist and reporter, tells him he needs to find a goal in life. When a friend announces he is going to join the IMA, Dehradun, Karan applies as well, despite dissent from his parents.
To his surprise, Karan gets selected (though his friend backs out). But he is undisciplined and unused to the life there and keeps getting into trouble. Upset, he runs away from the academy, which causes Romi to break up with him. Karan finally comes to terms with his situation and makes his decision. The movie ends with Col. Damle looking out across the mountains the next morning, to see an injured Capt. Karan hoisting the Indian flag atop the ruins of the stronghold.
Karan's father, who was skeptical and disapproving of him, is now proud of his son and he and Romi reunite. The movie goes on to show how a person who was irresponsible, not focused turned to be an disciplined focused army guy who brought glory to his country because of his valor in the India - Pakistan war of Kargil.
I was no longer seeing the movie, but was watching my life being played in front of me. No matter how many times I watch this movie although I am aware of its end I watch it completely as it serves as an source of inspiration to me and I would too like to do to myself one day what Karan did to himself in this movie.
Some incidents are so close to me from the film that it almost makes me remember the kind of guy I used to be in the past. I was too absorbed into the movie. It made me realized that no matter what you do in your life, no matter you are capable of doing it or not, just do the thing with focus and passion and that will fetch you victory in every battle of your life.
I still haven't been able to get out of it that movie put me in through... but I must admit, Hrithik truly portrayed every aspect of what a person would do when he suffers such kind of situation in front of him.
Yes that is what some movies do to you... some movies aren't just movies but they end up flashing your life in front of you and before you realize, it’s you acting in the movie and it’s your story being played.
